DISCIPLE

 This poem was written by Charles Thomas Studd, a renowned cricketer from a wealthy family in England. When he was saved, he gave up his position and fame in England and became a missionary, first to China, then to India, and finally to Africa where he died in 1931. While serving in India, he became engaged to Priscilla. Due to the demands of missionary service they were often separated, and he taught her to repeat daily these words: "Jesus, I love thee, thou art to me, dearer than Charlie ever could be." He expected Christ to occupy first place in every area of life.      C. T. Studd, like ourselves, was not perfect, but he was different from many Christians in that he gave his all for Christ. He said to the people, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem” , 1 Kgs. 12. 28. God had commanded His people to go up to Jerusalem several times a year to worship. But Jeroboam was concerned that this practice would weaken his hold on the people. He would make a religion more convenient for them with local shrines.     A friend was recently visiting some families who used to be in fellowship in a New Testament assembly. He suggested that they start meeting together, break bread and form an assembly. Their response? “It is too hard!” For some time they have been going to large denominational churches and had found it very comfortable and easy. We drift with the current. We allow our lives to be settled by our companions or our whims, our fancies or our tastes; and if ever we have a momentary qualm, in contrasting our lives with the standards of primitive simplicity, of which Scripture and old biographies are full, we excuse ourselves by saying that so long as the main purpose is right the details are unimportant. This reasoning is wrong. We make a grave mistake in supposing that the main purpose of our life is something different from that which reveals itself in details. What we are in the details of our life, that we are really and essentially. The truest photographs are taken when we are unprepared for the operation. “The Spirit and the Bride say – COME” – Rev. 22:17 Beloved of the Lord: A frequent question is heard from lips and hearts of many saints today; “WHEN will the Lord return?  WHEN shall we see His face?”  Perplexing and difficult circumstances may provoke this and problems that are domestic, social, political and ecclesiastical prevail.  A spiritual believer knows that the coming of the Lord is the only solution for them all.  Yet we who constitute His Bride, the Church, are we longing with bridal affection for the coming of our beloved Bridegroom?  Do bridal affections characterize us as we wait for Him to come? 1 – THE UNITED VOICES OF THE SPIRIT AND THE BRIDE – They both are to say – “COME” each expressing the longing desire for the Bridegroom's return.  The preceding Scripture of Rev. 22:16 should be noted as the basis of these words.  First, the royal relationship of Christ to Israel is declared – “I am the ROOT and OFFSPRING of David”. ...
