"So it will be at the end of the age; the angels shall come forth, and take out the wicked from among the righteous, and will cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Matthew 13:49-50).      The doctrine of hell is one of the most neglected doctrines in all of Scripture. When hell is mentioned today, it is generally ridiculed, as if the whole idea of hell were so old-fashioned that only the naive and ignorant would really believe that such a place actually exists. This is not hard to understand. Natural men hate the idea of being held accountable for their lives to a holy God, because they love sin and do not wish to part with it. The carnal mind throws up objection after objection to the idea of hell because it does not want to face the reality of it. Men live their lives thinking that maybe if they ignore a difficulty long enough, it will go away. Even conservative religious leaders are now attacking hell. Let men do what th

A Plea To A Rising Generation

by Phillip Mullan, Belfast What an exciting time of life!     Finishing school,     Learning to drive,     Having ever-increasing independence,     Going out with friends,     Meeting new people.     Perhaps you are going to university or starting work! There are new freedoms, more money, maybe a student loan, or your first salary – the opportunities seem endless!     We have a tendency as young people to live inside our comfortable “Christian bubbles”. Going to meetings and conferences, socializing and having fun, shopping, gaming, travelling, dining out and dressing up. Perhaps golfing, playing football or rugby, watching TV, films and the endless online options – Netflix, iPlayer, YouTube and Facebook to name but a few.     Would you let the Saviour interject into your busy life?     “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me” , Matt.16:24.     What do you know about this?     Christ speaks again, “He that taketh not hi

Three Things Come Not Back

Remember three things come not back: The arrow sent upon its track – It will not swerve, it will not stay Its speed; it flies to wound, or slay. The spoken word so soon forgot By thee; but it has perished not, In other hearts ‘tis living still And doing work for good or ill. And the lost opportunity That cometh back no more for thee, In vain thou weepest, in vain dost yearn, Those three will never more return. -- from Arabic

FAMILY LIFE -- Discipline and Respect

by J. A. Davidson DISCIPLINE “The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame” Prov. 29:15. Happy is the child who learns early in life that sin brings trouble. A child controlled by his parents will learn to control himself. “The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly” Prov. 20:30. A child who is calmly and firmly curbed will learn to curb himself or herself. Authority in the home will lead to submission to authority at school, authority of government and authority of God. The curbing of the hot temper and headstrong obstinacy of childhood will guide little feet into paths of morality and righteousness in youth and develop character and nobility in formative teenage years. Wilful disobedience cannot be overlooked. “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” Prov. 22:6. This means that he will not depart from the training.
